Floating Stair Treads

Floating Stair Treads

Give your home a beautiful, modern look with an open-riser staircase and sleek floating stair treads, fully wrapped in your hardwood or vinyl flooring.

Available for:

Hardwood Treads:
Choose between 4, 5, or 6 finished sides depending on your design needs. Featuring dual adhesive hardwood-to-core assembly and unique non-mitred joints to eliminate cracking and offer impeccable durability. All edges are rounded, sanded, stained, and lacquered for durability.

Vinyl Treads:
Also available in 4, 5, or 6 finished sides depending on your design needs. All edges are rounded and seamless.

U-Shaped Nosings:
Available in hardwood and vinyl plank, U-Shaped nosings (also called sleeve nosings) are a more economical alternative to 4-sided floating stair treads. In cases where a floating staircase with closed stringers is installed (i.e. there is a stringer on both the left-hand and right-hand side), U-Shaped nosings can be slid onto the front and back of the existing plywood tread cores. If necessary, an additional flooring plank can be infilled in the middle of the tread between the front and back U-Shaped nosings to complete the tread. This creates a four-sided wrapped appearance (top, front, back, and bottom sides). U-Shaped nosings are ONLY for staircases that do not have any open/visible ends on left or right sides.

Ordering Considerations

The design and placement of your stringers will determine how many finished sides are required for the floating treads. For designs with stringers on both sides, choose 4-sided. For cantilevered treads, choose 5-sided. For designs with a centred monostringer, choose 6-sided.

Please determine specific size and how many sides of your treads need to be wrapped before ordering. Please also specify if plywood core material will be supplied.

AC Moulding may require a site visit before manufacturing.

Material Requirements

Typically, at least six planks per tread that are longer than your ordered tread length. It is best to send one box of flooring per tread.
